Birth Story.. Karston Cole Sevy.. 09.11.12

Here is our birth story for Karston Cole Sevy.. On Monday, September 10, 2012 in the morning I wasn't feeling Karston move very much. Usually he moved a lot in the mornings and was very active. This particular morning he was very lethargic. It was worrying me a bit. I drank some juice and ate lunch and sat around for a bit trying to feel him, but there was nothing. Around two o'clock Kamille and I went and got pedicures. She has worked for labor and delivery for about 9 years, so I decided to ask her about my situation. She said - well let's get you a soda and then get our pedicures and see if he moves at all in an hour. I felt him maybe once or twice - not enough to have a peace of mind. I called the doctor and set up an appointment for a stress test and ultrasound. They had me come in right away. The stress test was ok, but not great. They felt a little uneasy, so Dr. S. Lee gave me some options: 1. Either you can wait until you go into labor on your own or 2. We induce you tonight. That really got me nervous! Tonight? She recommended doing it now, so something didn't happen that could have been prevented. I took her advice. She said we can start you on 3 doses of something that I cannot remember (ha) and then if you haven't progressed then in the morning we'll start you on pitocin.
My first dose was at about 7:30pm. I thought I wouldn't progress at all, but I did!! Fast. I started at a 1cm. My first dose didn't really get me going that much, but after my second I moved from a 1.5 to a 3 in a half hour. during that half hour I was getting my epidural and OH MY GOSH... BEST THING EVER!!! I loved my anesthesiologist. He was hilarious and kept my mind off of any pain I was having. Right after he got me all set up I threw up. After that the meds started kicking in and I was in heaven. I couldn't feel a thing. I fell asleep right after that. While I was sleeping my oxygen kept dropping, so they put me on oxygen. Justin woke up later and was so concerned that I had oxygen on. He said, "What happened? Are you ok?" I love that he was so concerned!! :) Then in the next four hours I progressed to an 8. They came to check me and was shocked because my water was basically protruding. They thought that was the weirdest thing. The nurse hurried and called Dr. S. Lee and she got there within the next half hour.
She broke my water and baby's head was already at a 3+. I started pushing and in the next twenty minutes Mr. Karston Cole Sevy was born. 8 lbs 11.3 oz at 6:39am on September 11, 2012! I just want to reiterate how amazing the epidural is... I didn't feel anything and I was able to watch the entire thing in a mirror. Some may say that is weird, but it was the most amazing and magical thing I've ever seen!! You don't get that experience every day. Birth is something that should be enjoyed and I sure did!
